CHESTER HOLOWICKI (1974-2013)

Chester Holowicki, a beloved part of Chicago's LGBT nightlife community, DJ, and artist, passed away on Wednesday, December 11th at the age of 39 following a prolonged battle with Ocular melanoma. Known to many as "DJ Chester", Holowicki was a resident DJ at Berlin Nightclub on Belmont Ave since 2000, and has been a popular fixture at many other venues, including Spin Nightclub & Cocktail during the course of his 13 year DJ career.

Born June 24th, 1974 in Dearborn, MI, Chester studied acting at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI before moving to Chicago, IL in the late 1990s. His artistic endeavors included pop-art inspired illustrations - a provocative drawing series he called "Spaghetti Man".

Chester's humor, creativity, and musical selections brought joy to many. After losing a eye to cancer in February 2011, his bravery and strength during his very public struggle proved inspirational. He continued to work, entertaining friends and fans until was no longer physically able.

He is survived by his parents Lisa & Chet Holowicki, his brother Drew Holowcki, and his partner Joey Hinger.

Friends and Family hosted a special memorial gathering at Berlin from 7pm-12 Midnight on Wednesday, December 18th, 2013. Another memorial will be held in the Detroit area on Saturday, January 11th. Details will be posted shortly.
